a) Object-oriented database management systems (OODBMS) integrate the benefits of traditional database systems with the modelling and computational characteristics of an object-oriented data model. Describe the following concepts in the context of OODBMSs: i. Generalisation. ii. Specialisations. iii. Multiple Inheritance. iv. Polymorphism. (20 Marks) b) Object-oriented database management systems (OODBMS) offer many benefits both to the development of Information Systems and also to the efficient running of commercial enterprises. Discuss this statement and give an assessment of the current level of adoption of object-oriented databases. a) Data administration is the term applied to the task of managing organisational memory. Identify the main components relevant in managing the database environment and discuss what challenges organisations face in data management. You should consider issues such as performance monitoring and data integration in your answer. (18 Marks) b) There are two levels of data administration that can be identified in organisations: Project and System-Level. Describe in detail what function and responsibility each level provides to the organisation, and what roles are commonly associated with each level.
