  1. What is the main issue in the introductory paragraph? The main issue is the worrying increase of obesity among US citizens.
  2. In the next paragraph, what do you think are the culprits? According to the following paragraph, the main culprits are sugar and fat, which is found in today's standard super-sized doses of fast food.
  3. How many calories are there in one serving? It is said that a single serving of McDonald's or Burger King's meal contains up to 2000 calories.
  4. What are the two scientific proofs, based on paragraph 4, that sugar and fat behave like drugs causing addiction? Sugar and fat are natural painkillers that activates the release of dopamine, which provoke feelings of pleasure or euphoria. This means, the presumed dependence is a result of the body's desire to release dopamine inherent in their consumption.
  5. How does the author conclude the report? 6. Is there any caution suggested in the conclusion? The author reports that fat and sugar behave in a drug-like fashion, creating obese individuals with higher presence of dopamine receptors. He then concluded that as the weight rises, so is the need of the individual to consume larger portions to experience the comparable euphoric effect.

୧•✧⠢ REFLECTION ೃೃ༄

Directions: Reflect on what you have learned after taking up this lesson by completing the chart below. What were your thoughts or ideas about language in academic text prior to the discussion of this lesson? I thought… …that writing a survey report is easy. I thought that all I have to do is to say the number of individuals that chooses a certain option and call it a day. I also assumed that summarizing requires little effort since I used to view it as just copying the text and removing its certain parts. What new or additional ideas did you learn after taking up this lesson? I learned… … that a survey report describes a survey, its results and its patterns or trends. I now know that most survey reports follow a standardized organization, subdivided into certain headings. I now acknowledge that each section (introduction, main body, and conclusion) has a specific purpose. I must fill out each section properly and review the document in order to create a professional survey report. I should also disseminate my data in a manner that the percentage and proportions are clear. I also discovered that summarizing requires engagement and a deep understanding of the author’s ideas or perspective, regardless of my personal opinion. This could be done by skimming, highlighting the important data, keeping key support details in mind, and redo the process to make appropriate changes.
