Q1.(a) The following are a series of levels booked during a levelling survey; using the height of collimation method, record them in the required table and calculate the reduced levels. Back-sight, 1.790m, intermediate-sights 2.079m, 1.986m, 2.148m, 2.243m, and a fore-sight of 1.340m. The first reduced level is 100.00. (15 marks)

(b) Name three types of admixtures and two types of additives that can be used in a concrete mix. (8 marks)

(c) What is meant by the following? (i) Structural Concrete. (ii) Fibre Reinforcing (iii) Shear, Tension and Compression. Illustrate your answer with a sketch if necessary. (10 marks)

Q2. (a) Sketch the following items used in construction. (i) Concrete pad foundation supporting a concrete column. Indicate clearly the position of the reinforcing bars. (ii) Steel portal frame using a pin-joint. (iii) Concrete portal frame. (12 marks) (b) Sketch the following standard structural steelwork sections. (i) Universal beam. (ii) Steel-joist. (iii) Castellated beam. (12 marks)

(c) Explain the following:- (i) Limit state design of a building. (ii) Dead loads. (iii) Imposed loads. (9 marks)
