I found an interesting pattern in the author’s chapter titles that I wholeheartedly agree with. First, we must know and believe in the one true God. Second, we can take comfort in believing that our God has all power and does not change. Third, there is also peace in knowing He resides everywhere, even where there is evil. Lastly, when we’ve soaked up the previous attributes, holiness is the anchor that holds everything together. 2 things that feel like principles I need to pay attention to jumped out to me. First, “Our worship must be right if it is to be accepted” (Ch. 5, 1st^ pp). Second, “We get into trouble when we try to make God too much like what we know” (Ch. 6, 1st^ heading). I am guilty of just going through the motions of worship and not making sure what I’m doing is correct. And too often attach human qualities to God when I shouldn’t. So, I feel that the actions God would have me take in my worship is to pay attention to what I’m physically doing, so my efforts are not in vain. And for the second part, my notable quote at the beginning reminded me of something my former pastor said often. He did not want to serve a God that he could understand. So, I need to be careful that I’m not lowering God to my human level of understanding and thus limiting Him to a place He does not belong.
