CJSim™ Reflective Journal Na’Asia Hardwick Chamberlain University College of Nursing NR 283: Pathophysiology Mrs. Debrah-Pinamang June 8th, 2025
CJSim™ Reflective Journal Completing the CJSim for Jolene Sigmund taught me a lot about recognizing and managing acute pancreatitis, especially in the context of underlying risk factors like alcohol abuse and gallstones. Before this sim, I didn’t fully understand how lab values like lipase, CRP, WBCs, and bilirubin all connect to inflammation and organ stress. Seeing her lipase levels five times the normal limit and her WBCs steadily climbing helped me recognize how serious her condition was, especially when paired with symptoms like bilious emesis, a distended abdomen, and 9/10 epigastric pain. This scenario also made it clear how important it is to prioritize care based on immediate threats like dehydration before anything else. It reminded me that even though a patient might have multiple issues, the one affecting circulation and perfusion has to be addressed first. Moving forward, I’ll be more intentional about reading between the lines in lab results and patient symptoms. I’ll also remember that even if all the vital signs seem “normal,” something like a fever or vomiting could indicate a deeper systemic issue. This sim made me feel more confident in using critical thinking and nursing judgment in real-time. It’s not just about memorizing values it’s about connecting the dots and knowing how to act.
