Week 8 Reflection Over the past eight weeks, I have gained valuable knowledge and skills that have improved my ability to use population health principles, expand my understanding of the ethical issues in clinical practice, and strengthened my ability to advocate for positive health outcomes. Program Outcome #5: Advocates for positive health outcomes through compassionate, evidence-based, collaborative advanced nursing practice During my clinical rotation, I was able to apply screening tools for depression and anxiety in patients and refer to the appropriate specialists if necessary in order to improve their health outcomes. This showed compassionate, collaborative care that met the needs of the patient. During the course, I presented a powerpoint on social justice and food insecurity. This presentation opened my eyes to the disparity between food insecurity and health outcomes. I presented a plan of what I can do when I become a nurse practitioner. MSN Essential VIII: Integration of broad, organizational, client-centered, and culturally appropriate concepts in planning, delivery, and evaluation of care During clinical rotation, the vast majority of the patients were Spanish-speaking and I had the opportunity to provide disease management education to them using our skilled medical assistant as an interpreter and appropriate educational materials in Spanish. The patients were very appreciative. During the course, I completed an i-Human virtual patient encounter on womens’s health, specifically on sexually transmitted infection and domestic violence. I was able to integrate client-centered care and provide evidence-based interventions tailored to the virtual patients needs.
