In Connecticut, there is a IPV hotline that can be called. Also, each regional Department of Children and Families (DCF) office has an assigned IPV specialist who consult, provide support, and leadership to families (CT.gov, 2023). Other IPV resources include the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CCADV), CT state police response to crimes of family violence, and the Infoline 211. The CCADV helps with housing, financial assistance, and work concerns. According to the site, those were the top three requested services for July 1, 2020, to June 30, 2021 (ctcadv.org, 2023). If Ava were in CT, I would explain to her that she could call 211 at anytime and they could aid with housing, counseling, safety planning, and court guidance if necessary (ctcadv.org, 2023). When it comes to reporting IPV, there are laws that require healthcare personnel to report injuries that meet certain criteria, such as when the patient is a child, in a nursing home, suffers a gunshot wound, or an adult with mental retardation (The State of Connecticut Technical Guidelines for the Health Care Response to Victims of Sexual Assault, n.d.). However, there are no protocols in place for reporting intimate partner violence unless there was the discharge of a firearm (Mandated Reporter, 2023). This would then be reported to the local police department. CT does require healthcare professionals to be trained in how to talk to, educate, respond to and refer individuals suffering from IPV, which has helped, in conjunction with the numerous laws, save women and children dealing with abuse (Mandated Reporter, 2023).
