Week 8 Reflection on Learning Sansita Bhatta Chamberlain University college of Nursing Course Number- NR 606 Professor: Dr. Clara Pieh Date: 06/26/

Describe how the assigned readings, activities, assessments, and clinical experiences in this course helped you to meet Program Outcome 5: Advocates for positive health outcomes through compassionate, evidence-based, collaborative advanced nursing practice. (Extraordinary Nursing) Provide at least two specific examples. The assigned readings, activities, assessments, and clinical experiences in this course have been instrumental in helping me meet Program Outcome 5, which emphasizes advocating for positive health outcomes through compassionate, evidence-based, collaborative advanced nursing practice. First, the comprehensive readings on evidence-based practice and patient-centered care provided a solid theoretical foundation. For example, the article on the integration of trauma- informed care in mental health settings deepened my understanding of how to approach patients with a history of adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). This knowledge was directly applicable during my clinical rotations, where I was able to employ trauma-informed care principles to create a safe and supportive environment for patients with complex trauma histories. By doing so, I could advocate more effectively for their mental health needs and facilitate their engagement in the therapeutic process. Second, the interactive activities and assessments, such as case studies and simulation exercises, enhanced my clinical decision-making skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams. In one simulation, I worked with a team of healthcare professionals to develop a care plan for a patient with severe depression and comorbid substance use disorder. This experience underscored the importance of collaborative practice and communication in

and mental health conditions. I worked closely with primary care physicians, nurses, social workers, and behavioral health specialists to develop coordinated care plans for patients. Evaluation Methods : To assess the effectiveness of this integrated approach, we tracked key metrics such as patient adherence to treatment plans, frequency of primary care visits, mental health outcomes (e.g., reduction in symptoms of depression and anxiety), and patient satisfaction. We used standardized tools like the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9) and Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD-7) scale for pre- and post-intervention assessments (Pranckeviciene et al., 2022). Regular interdisciplinary team meetings were held to review data, discuss patient progress, and refine care strategies based on the evaluation results. Telehealth Mental Health Services for Rural Communities: Partnership with Local Health Departments and Telehealth Providers: In another project, I was involved in a telehealth initiative aimed at providing mental health services to underserved rural communities. This involved collaborating with local health departments, telehealth technology providers, and community leaders. The goal was to address the shortage of mental health professionals in rural areas by leveraging telehealth capabilities. Evaluation Methods : The effectiveness of the telehealth program was evaluated through a combination of quantitative and qualitative measures. We collected data on the number of telehealth consultations, patient demographics, treatment adherence, and clinical outcomes (e.g., changes in mental health status). Additionally, we conducted surveys and interviews with patients and providers to gather feedback on their experiences with telehealth services. This

evaluation helped us identify barriers to telehealth adoption and areas for improvement, such as enhancing technology support and ensuring privacy and confidentiality during virtual sessions. These experiences have been instrumental in teaching me how to develop and sustain collaborative approaches with stakeholders to meet population healthcare needs. By implementing rigorous evaluation methods, I have learned to measure the effectiveness of these initiatives and make data-driven decisions to enhance mental health outcomes for diverse populations. (NONPF) Quality Competency listed below and describe how learning in this course helped you to meet the competency. Provide at least two specific examples. NP 1.1i: Translate evidence from nursing science and other sciences into NP practice Learning in this course has significantly helped me meet the competency of translating evidence from nursing science and other sciences into Nurse Practitioner (NP) practice. Two specific examples illustrate this: Evidence-Based Practice Project: One of the key assignments in the course was an evidence- based practice (EBP) project where I was required to identify a clinical problem, review the relevant literature, and develop an intervention based on current evidence. For my project, I focused on improving the management of depression in adolescents. Through a comprehensive literature review, I identified effective strategies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and
