II.Key Points
Research is the systematic investigation and study of materials and sources to establish facts and reach new
conclusions.
The characteristics of research are empirical, systematic, controlled, employs hypothesis, analytical, objective,
and original work.
It follows the process of defining a research problem, reviewing related literature, formulating hypothesis,
selecting appropriate research design, collecting data, and discussing results and recommendations.
Ethics is essential in research writing. For example, all participants/respondents must give their consent to be
part of the study. Additionally, collecting data from minors, such as students, is not allowed without
parental/guardian consent.
As noted by Prieto et al. (2017), research shapes people’s understanding of the world around them. It offers
solutions based upon systematic investigations. Hence, it improves varied aspects of people’s lives.
III. Activities:

importance of conducting this research.
