Quiz #1 STA2023 Stemplots and Histograms
Write your quiz up on a separate piece of paper with your name, date, course
registration number, and the time and days that you attend the class. Show all work for
full credit. Your submitted quiz should be neat, clear and detailed. It should not be a
rough draft. When in doubt, include as much relevant, correct information pertaining to
your answer as possible. Remember, start early and seek out help if you “get stuck.”

Make a stemplot of the variable Calorie. It should have a “class width” of 10.
The digits (leaves) should be in order.
2. (6 pts.) On the back of this page are the Test #1 scores for Pat Murphy’s STA

data. Choose a class width of 7.5 starting with a lower class limit of 0. An
asterisk (*) means that no score was recorded for that student. Give the graph a
title and label the axes appropriately. How many test scores are between 45 and
under 60?
a. (3 pts.) Which class has the highest frequency and what is this frequency?
b. (3 pts.) What is the exact range of the data? Can we get the exact value of the
range by looking only at the histogram? Why or why not?
c. (3 pts.) Does the graph follow a pattern? (symmetric, skewed right, skewed
left, bimodal, uniform, etc.)
d. (3 pts.) Does there appear to be any outliers? If so what are they?
3. (2 pts.) Suppose that you and your friends emptied pockets of coins and recorded
