An analysis of the literary techniques used in Nicola Yoon's novel 'Everything, Everything'. The analysis covers three components: visuals and pictures, letter form, and short & descriptive sentence structure. The author discusses how these elements contribute to the reader's understanding of the story and create a deeper connection with the characters.

Why does it matter?
What's the impact on the reader?
Switching the structure is what this part of the book
does. Like the visuals and the pictures, this is another
way to show readers what is going on. Here in these
pages, the author show where the character has come
from. In the beginning of the book, there was an
excerpt from Maddy's childhood diary. Now she has
grown and matured, which results in writing a
brutally honest letter.
I would say relatable. At some point in our lifetime,
we will write a letter that we will write put our
feelings in concerning ourselves and/or someone
else. In this section, I think the author is trying to get
us to relate to Maddy. It doesn?t have to be to what
she is saying, but how she is going about saying it.
Which is through the form of a letter.
Why does it matter?
What's the impact on the reader?
I think the significance of this would be that it is used
throughout the entire book. Yet the book is still
detailed and engaging. The situation was described
in slow motion. Everything was happening at once
but could be specifically pointed out in this way. Even
when she returned back into her home, she said that
she was outside for less than a minute.
From my experience, this makes me want to read
more. Something major is happening in the shortest
amount of time. In our everyday lives, something
major happens and it?s so big but the moment lasted
so little. Or did it? There was still an after effect on
her, but the actual experience of it was so tiny and
fast, but so substantial.
Part 1:
My name is Aubrey Merial. As a child, I was always so eager to play with
the other children. I loved being active and engaged with any type of a moving
activity. When I was 10, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. And so, I had to
throw my dreams of sports down a never ending drain. The doctor had told
my dad they found a tumor in my chest and it had spread pretty quickly. I
remember my father being heartbroken and crying. He had no one. I had no
siblings. We?d lost my mother when I was just an infant. She died giving birth
to me. My life is a cycle. I watch sports, do homework, chemo, talk to some
friends online, go outside with dad, eat, sleep, repeat.
Part 2:Dear Dad,
I love you. You know I do. There?s nothing in this world that I wouldn?t do to
make you happy, to make you proud of me. So dad, please be proud of me. You are
the strongest, most loving, and patient person I?ve ever known. And if i don?t know
anything, I know that f athers like you are very rare. I?m gratef ul f or you and
all that you?ve done.
There is so much that I?ve missed out on. And bef ore it?s too late, I want
to go and experience everything that this world has to of f er. I know that might
be impossible, but I?d like to think that it isn?t. Adding to this, there?s so much
more to why i am doing this. I need to f ind my purpose in lif e. I was once told
lif e is a gif t. But I was never told the purpose of this gif t called lif e. And so
I?m going to f ind mine. This may be the last words you ever hear f rom. I love you
dad. But I need you to f orgive me. Forgive me. Bye.
