Taking the Clifton Strength finder, I discovered my top five strengths are thinker,
prioritizer, consensus, believing, and structerer. I think each of these represents myself
pretty accurately. In relation to the strengths of an entrepreneur, I did not have any
strengths that matched. However, I feel that the strengths I do have can somewhat be
related to a few of an entrepreneur. The top five strengths listed for an entrepreneur are
activator, adaptability, strategic, discipline, and focus. I think that structerer could easily
be related to strategic. Consensus, which means seeking harmony to solve conflicts, is
similar to being an activator. My strengths of prioritizing and being a thinker could also
be helpful skills to an entrepreneur. Although my strengths test did not reveal the exact
top five entrepreneurial strengths, I do think mine could be just as beneficial.
Examples that I can think of where my strengths relate to that of an entrepreneur
are mostly just in every day situations. Being a thinker helps me focus on certain issues at
hand. I put a lot of time into thinking all of my actions through and finding the best
solutions to problems. As a prioritizer, I am able to put what matters most in the forefront
of my mind. This is important for entrepreneurs to be able to do. With a million different
thoughts floating in their minds, they need to be able to take one task at a time picking
the one that will produce the best results. My other strength that I believe is equally
important to those of an entrepreneur is being a structerer. Like I mentioned, I believe
that this strength is very similar to being strategic as well as disciplined. One thing that
really stood out to me in reading this article under the strategic category was, “finding
alternative ways to succeed.” As a structerer, the Clifton strengths finder test summarized
it by saying this involves being disciplined and creating routines in order to avoid doing

work more than once. I do this a lot with my schoolwork. I try to find the most efficient way to complete my work while making sure I avoid error so I do not have to recomplete an assignment. As you can see by these examples in my everyday life, most of my strengths are similar to those of an entrepreneur despite the exact labels. A few questions that popped into my mind while comparing the strengths of an entrepreneur listed in the article to mine that I received from taking the test, were:

  • Can I develop the strengths of an entrepreneur despite my test results?
  • (^) Which of my strengths is least like that of an entrepreneur?
  • Can I possess the traits of an activator even though I am not outgoing? After thinking about these questions, I believe I do have the ability to develop the strengths of an entrepreneur. Just because my results were not the same, does not mean I am not capable of developing the skills necessary to become an entrepreneur. I think my strength of believing is least like that of an entrepreneur. Being a believer may cause false hope in what I do. Although it is good to have faith in your ideas, believing every thought of yours is going to succeed is unrealistic. Lastly, even though I am not very outgoing, I think anyone is able to possess the traits of an activator. Being able to recruit others on your endeavors can be challenging for an introvert like myself. However, I think with time I would be able to overcome this challenge. The action I am going to take, now that I have compared my strengths to the ones in the article, is to develop the strengths I have into those of an entrepreneur. Even though I do not necessarily plan on becoming an entrepreneur, I think it is important to be able to think like one in any aspect of business. I plan to take the strengths and skills I have and try to mold them into ones of an entrepreneur. It may take time, but it will be worth it as I pursue a career in business.
