A. Nursing Quality Indicators
Nursing quality indicators fundamentally encompass the aspects of nursing care that
affect patient outcomes. The aspects of nursing care that influence patient outcomes include
latent problems that may occur during the hospitalization period such as a fall (Gao et al.
2018). Nursing quality indicators are typically evaluated during patient care to determine the
patient’s satisfaction. In addition to focusing on patient outcomes, nursing patient indicators
also focus on care givers. Notably, staffing issues among nurses such as exhaustion, work
displeasure, and short-staffed units affect the quality of patient care (Naik et al. 2020).
Consistent with the focus on both patients and caregivers, nursing quality indicators are
segmented into various categories including structural, procedure, and outcome indicators.
Specific nursing quality indicators include falls during hospitalization, the time spent by
nurses on patients, IV infiltrations, as well as the use of restraints. The application of nursing
quality indicators could specifically help caregivers in Mr. J’s case to recognize and
appreciate specific problems that could interfere with the provision of care to patients.
In Mr. J’s case, the patient was hospitalized after a fall in his home and a subsequent
fracture in his right hip. Mr. J is a rabbi, and therefore, his culture and beliefs are uniquely

Nursing Quality Indicators Nursing quality indicators fundamentally encompass the aspects of nursing care that affect patient outcomes. The aspects of nursing care that influence patient outcomes include latent problems that may occur during the hospitalization period such as a fall (Gao et al. 2018). Nursing quality indicators are typically evaluated during patient care to determine the patient’s satisfaction. In addition to focusing on patient outcomes, nursing patient indicators also focus on care givers. Notably, staffing issues among nurses such as exhaustion, work displeasure, and short-staffed units affect the quality of patient care (Naik et al. 2020). Consistent with the focus on both patients and caregivers, nursing quality indicators are segmented into various categories including structural, procedure, and outcome indicators. Specific nursing quality indicators include falls during hospitalization, the time spent by nurses on patients, IV infiltrations, as well as the use of restraints. The application of nursing quality indicators could specifically help caregivers in Mr. J’s case to recognize and appreciate specific problems that could interfere with the provision of care to patients. In Mr. J’s case, the patient was hospitalized after a fall in his home and a subsequent fracture in his right hip. Mr. J is a rabbi, and therefore, his culture and beliefs are uniquely

dissimilar to the cultural beliefs of most people in the community who do not practice a similar religion. According to the American Nurses Association, nurses are required to respect their patients. Revering patients includes respecting their beliefs as well as their wishes. Mr. J’s medical records indicates that he suffers from mild dementia. The condition implies that the patient may accidentally fall from the bed during the period of hospitalization. During her visit to the hospital ward, Mr. J’s daughter noted that he was under intense pain medication, and therefore, lethargic. Nonetheless, Mr. J was restrained to his bed, and therefore, required help to open the restraints and access the bathroom. Applying the nursing quality indicators nurses could observe that the restraints placed on Mr. J were unnecessary since the patient was drowsy from the effects of the pain medication. Therefore, an alternative care plan would have been implemented such as a bed alarm to enhance patient outcomes. The application of nursing quality indicators could also enable the caregivers to appreciate that the occurrence of the pressure ulcer on the patient adversely affects the quality of care. Instead of employing the appropriate reporting channels to address the red region on Mr. J’s lower spinal area, the CNA advised Mr. J daughter to ignore the matter since it is unimportant. The latter implies that pressure ulcers are common among patients hospitalized at the care centre. B. Promoting Quality Patient Care Clinic data on nursing quality indicators such as the commonness of placing patients on restraints and the occurrence of pressure ulcers could promote considerable improvements in the quality of care through creation of awareness regarding common issues that adversely affect patient care. Fundamentally, the awareness could prompt nursing leaders to review specific hospital policies that affect patient care.

Ignoring the patient’s dietary requirements is a notable ethical issue in the scenario. Regarding the above issue, I would employ the hospital’s policies regarding requests made by patients to address the problem. Fundamentally, I would employ the hospital’s policies to ensure that care givers respect their patients’ wishes. What is more, I would also collaborate with nursing leaders in the hospital to develop consequences such as official warnings for nurses who ignore requests made by patients. The consequences could encourage caregivers to respect patients, their beliefs, and their wishes. References Gao, M., Bai, L., Wei, Z., & Cheng, S. (2018).
