What is Visual Arts? Pertains to painting and sculpture
Topic: The National Artists of the Philippines for Visual Arts Objectives: Explains Filipino artists’ roles and Identify their contribution to contemporary Arts. CAR11/12CAP-oc-e- -Identify the National Artists for Visual Arts -Explain the contributions of these National Artists. -Discuss the different styles and techniques these visual artists have used -Explain Filipino artist’s role and Identify their contribution to contemporary arts.
Spaniards invaded the country, the friars were the ones who introduced the Western styles of painting and carving , in which the theme was mainly religious. All over the country, churches have become informal museums where paintings and statues abound.
Filipino visual artists use native forms and subjects but with the use of foreign styles and techniques. Along with the inspirations from other countries, Spanish influences is still apparent in the works of the Filipinos. Some contemporary visual artists have been educated and trained abroad, introducing in the country different movements in the world of art.
National Artist for visual Arts 1.Napoleon Abueva 1930- Year of Conferment: -born in Tagbilaran, Bohol -considered the Father of Modern Philippine Sculpture. Youngest awardee to receive the National Artist award
-His works used varied materials ranging from hardwood to coral and adobe. -Man behind famous artwork such as: 1.The Transfiguration at the Eternal Gardens Memorial Park 2.The Water Buffalo 3.Bronze image of Teodoro M. Kalaw found in the façade of the National Library 4.Death masks of famous personalities such as Benigno Aquino, Jr. and Fernando Poe.

2.Ang Kiukok 1931- Year of Conferment: -born to immigrant Chinese parents Vicente Ang and Chin Lim. -one of the most talented and energetic figures who began his flourishing carrier during the 1960s. -his works continue to inspire and influence Filipinos
