A) Two organizations within the entity of Health and Human Services that would help Ms. Roberts are HOPWA and SAMHSA. HOPWA is the housing opportunity for persons with HIV/AIDS and SAMHSA is the substance abuse & mental health services administration. The first organization recommended is the Housing Opportunities for Persons with HIV/AIDS (HOPWA). This program assists those who are homeless and living with HIV/AIDS and helps them obtain housing. Children experiencing homelessness are at an increased risk for behavioral problems, health issues, and are more likely to experience separation from their families (National Alliance to End Homelessness, 2023). If Ms. Roberts could have stable housing for her and her family, it would give her a sense of security. Stable and affordable housing would eliminate a major stress from Ms. Roberts and then she could focus on her health for her and her children. Having housing would also give her and her family a clean and safe environment that would improve their health now, as well as in the future. The second organization I have chosen is the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). This program focuses on substance abuse and mental health services, both of which Ms. Roberts is experiencing. They will find local treatment centers for Ms. Roberts and get her admitted regardless of her financial status. Between medication therapy and behavioral therapy, she will be provided a “wrap around” coverage on care. Treating her substance abuse disorder will improve her quality of life and life expectancy. One million people have died from drug overdoses since 1999 (NCDAS, 2024). Ensuring that Ms. Roberts is drug-free and able to function in society is detrimental to her future health needs. This program can promote that. B) One role within the Health and Human Services community that could assist Ms. Roberts with her needs is a case manager. Case managers have a wide range of knowledge and they act as a liaison between community services offered and the individual in need. They can help coordinate medical care, cost effective outcomes and offer social support (CMSA, 2024). Maintaining this connection will also help Ms. Roberts future needs. The first activity would be developing a plan of action with Ms. Roberts. Sitting down and collaborating a list of achievable goals will give Ms. Roberts a sense of

not feel comfortable opening up to her provider or accept care. As a case manager, I would find a provider that matches Ms. Roberts cultural background so she feels a sense of community and understanding. With the clinic having multiple diverse providers, this should not be hard to advocate for. I would also check in regularly to make sure that Ms. Roberts is receiving culturally competent care and that feels comfortable with her current provider.
