3.1 Skills: Through the videos, the documentation provided and the teamwork, explain what the film offers us and how we can adapt it to professional and personal life in terms of:

- Leadership: In Apollo 13, fear was a motivator for the team to return the astronauts’ home expeditiously. Fortunately, strong leadership allows them to succeed. In that way, we can conclude that leadership is one of the most effective approaches to use in situations when it is necessary to support and motivate people to overcome a crisis or a certain challenge. Moreover, to achieve high results, it is important to balance control and avoid pressure on people. Show true leadership by empowering people to make decisions and find solutions. - Development of team members Apollo 13 mission is known as a “successful failure”. Though the mission never made it to the moon, the NASA team achieved success in other significant ways which overshadowed all predicaments. Extraordinary teamwork allowed the Apollo 13 team to save the crew and to show the benefits of collaboration and cohesiveness. We can apply this lesson in the development of a team with a strong leader who is able to accentuate the strengths of individuals, motivate and inspire them, set appropriate goals, and encourage them to achieve better results without pressure.

  • Dynamism In the film, they had to work together to completely rewrite new navigation procedures and test them to ensure their viability before they could communicate them to the stranded crew. In our lives, we can adapt this by recognizing that employees are talented and skilled differently and that people are optimally productive at different times of the day. It focuses more on an employee's output and less on the number of hours worked. - Teamwork Saving the Apollo 13 mission, and also their lives, became a top priority, so the astronauts’ spirit of teamwork became center stage right away. We can adapt this behavior to our lives by effective communication, that is the most important part of teamwork. Also involves consistently updating each person of the team and never assuming that everyone has the same ideas or information. 3.2 Lessons learned for future improvement. Explain what lessons we can learn from the film about the following aspects:
  • Have a Clear Objective: is necessary to have a direction for all the team. This way in case of an emergency everybody knows that is the priority.
  • Choose the best people, this should be clear for all the team what is the best people. What things may be a impediment in participating on the project, this way there won't be any miscommunication.
  • Have a good support team, is the essential part of a high risk project. The team has tu trust each other and the support team has to feel the same responsibility as the acting team. This will help in the decision making.
  • Have the best equipment and Technology, in technological projects this may be the key for the success. It is important to be at the level of the equipment necessary. In this case it would have been a good idea to take an extra battery in case of any equipment failure.
  • Constant training, all the team has to have training. The back up team as well. The replacement hadn't been in the simulator for a few days, it would have been prudent to train all with the same intensity just in case something changed the plans as it did.
  • Preparation for the unexpected, this is a crucial part of the learning. Things can happen always, all the team has to be emotionally prepared for it, and understand the consequences or future problems that can occur. -Never give up, when talking about people's life, the team has to be ready not to stop trying its best always.
  • Improvisation, in this case we believe that the improvisation of the tema was correct. The leader showed the importance and the team reacted correctly.
  • Take risks, this is necessary for all projects. Decisions are taken not always with all the information.
  • Find success even in failure as things not always go as planed, small achievements have to be celebrated.
