Blasted is a play by sarah kane set in london during the yugoslav war. The story unfolds over two days in a hotel and revolves around the evolution of the characters, ian and cate. Ian is a xenophobic and misogynistic man who initially refuses to have sex with cate. However, they eventually give in, and their lives take a violent and shocking turn. The play is known for its graphic depiction of violence and sex, making it a prime example of 'in-yer-face theatre'. The most intriguing aspect of the play is the reversal of character roles, with cate taking on the role of caretaker and ian becoming dependent on her. This exploration of the human condition, despite its disturbing nature, is a powerful commentary on reality.

The play is located in London c.1991 while the Yugoslav war. The action happens in two days in a hotel.
For me, the most impressive fact for me of that play is the evolution of the characters. Ian is a xenophobe and misogynist man who says that loves Cate, an innocent woman that was in love with Ian but she says she cannot have sex with him because, for her, it is not right.
Ian and Cate end up the day having sex and when they're awake things start to change. She goes to shower and then a soldier knocks to the door. Cate is always complaining because Ian has a gun but it results useful at the end. The soldier argue with Ian and says that he can smell the sex and he's going to search the girl. When he opens the bathroom he realizes there're no on one in it, Cate has escaped through the window.
The soldier says he's going to suck Ian's eyes out and then he's going to rape and kill him and that's what he does. But, instead, when Cate comes back, she founds Ian without eyes and the soldier has killed himself. Cate comes back with a baby and she says she wants to take care of him. Now Ian is blind so Cate is the one who has to take care of him and also of the baby. She looks for food but the baby finally dies and she buries him. When Cate is gone, Ian looks for food but he ends up eating the baby and Cate returns with the rests of her food for him.
Violence and sex are the main features of the play and they are shown to us in a violent way so we're talking about "In-yer-face Theatre."
The characters evolutions is the most important thing of the play for me because the papers of each characters get reversed at the end. I think it is kinda disgusting but that's how real life is, blasted and disgusting.
