You will need these to prepare the Tasks below. When you have finished, share one thing that you have learnt from these Resources (e.g. vocabulary, expressions or grammar) to the I have learnt something today folder in the Forum. Remember that your writing should be 100% original and that you should not receive external help when preparing your text. Your work will be run through the plagiarism detection software used by the UOC. If your writing is found not to be 100% original, you will automatically fail the subject. See the box on the next page for instructions on this task, in which you will be writing an article to submit to your school’s writing contest.
Your article must include the required language focus (see next page) and follow this structure:
1. Choose an attractive title for your article. 2. Introduction: Give a short introduction to the experience you went through and what you did. 3. Main body: Describe what you would have done differently back then and how your life would be different now if you had known then what you know now. Make sure you include 2 or 3 ideas as separate paragraphs. 4. Conclusion: Summarise the key points of your article and emphasize its main message for the reader. Your school is running a writing contest and you have seen the following announcement. Read it carefully, and submit your article to the Forum.
Post-task REFLECT IN ENGLISH (FORUM) Reflect on the point below and post your response to the CA1 I wish folder in the Forum: ● What is one thing you wish you (or someone else) had done differently in your life? Explain why. Read your classmates’ posts and respond to one (or more) of them, trying to find the silver lining (positive point) in their situation. Feel free to continue responding to one another in a dialogue! Skills Work: Reading Activity 1 Overview Task type To do Where Length % CA mark Individual Reading Classroom 20 questions
To do the reading comprehension exercise, click on the link Reading 1 in your classroom. You will read two texts. For each text you will do a multiple-choice exercise and a vocabulary exercise. All reading and listening quizzes in this course are timed. You will have 60 minutes to complete this task. You will only be able to do Reading 1 once. Your mark will be taken from that attempt. You have until the end of CA1 to complete this task.
