I WISH / IF ONLY
They are expressions we use to complain/ regret about something
1. that can still change
I wish/if only + S + Verb in past (past simple) + comp
+ S + would/ wouldn’t + V (infinitive) + comp
→ I wish it rained more often in Greece
→ I wish you wouldn’t arrive so late always.
2. that cannot be changed (because they are past)
I wish/ if only + S + Past perfect + comp
→ If only she had listened to what his friends had been telling her
conditionals
ZERO CONDITIONAL
present simple + present simple
→ if you drink, don’t drive
first conditional
present simple + (will + infinitive)
→ if you cook dinner, i will wash the dishes
SECOND CONDITIONAL
past simple + (would + infinitive)
→ if you gave me a coin, I would buy ice cream
THIRD CONDITIONAL
(Past perfect) + (would have + past participle)
→ If you hadn’t been sick, you would have gone to the party.
