2 DEVELOPMEN?TS IN LINGUISTICS Unit 2 looks at the way the study of language has developed across the centuries. The first reading text examines the way that linguistics has branched out into a number of specialisms. The second reading text looks at some of the key figures in linguistics and the developments in thinking for which they are responsible. Note that students will need dictionaries for some exercises in this unit.
