• Instructions:

Write a composition of a page (about 170-220 words) on one of the four topics listed below. Write your final answer on this sheet of paper. You may use a sheet of examination papers notes.

A. What was the “ Scramble for Africa ”, and what were/are its effects? Give specific details of the

colonial legacy in Africa.

B. What is the “ tripartite government ” in Catalonia? How and why did this coalition form? Is it

a successful coalition?

C. Explain the origins of the piracy off the coast of Somalia. Why does it exist? Is it justifiable?

Can it be stopped?

D. Is a child’s upbringing negatively or positively affected if she/he is raised by homosexual

parents, heterosexual parents or a single parent? Discuss

• Composition evaluation:

The essay will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

• English grammar and vocabulary

• Organization

• Content (if the ideas are logical and well-defended)

• Flow of the text (it it is easy to read)

Use your best English! Simple, correct language is better than complicated language with a lot of errors, but sophisticated language will also be given higher marks than simple language.
