A house is a structure you live in that provides for your basic needs and safety A home is a place that provides you mental and emotional support, a place you look forward to being in to get away from the outside world Letting go: do not turn your house into a place of stress by focusing so much on decor, design and picking the perfect furniture to reflect your personality and interests Make it a refuge: to make your home in a no-stress zone you can take a few deep breaths before you open the door or leave all the negativity outside on the front steps Spend time there: the more time you spend in your house, the more you may grow to love it Share it: have friends or guests over. The more happiness and laughter that enter your house, the more it is going to feel like home Make memories: fill your home with people and laughter, and you will be making good memories all along the way. It will turn it from a mere dwelling into a home DOING UP A DERELICT HOUSE AND HOME SWEET HOME FAMILY EXAMPLE 1 FAMILY EXAMPLE 2 LOCATION The countryside- idyllic position In the city PROBLEMS Tiles- slipped off Windows- broken Door- hang off the hinges Gutters- hanging down Floorboard- rotten Tree in the house Old carpet and wallpaper Bathroom, kitchen, fittings Old dangerous electrical system Rubbish inside SOLUTIONS Knock down the wall, put up another wall, call in a surveyor, plumber and electrician, go to DIY store Strip the house, DIY store SMART HOME

everybody else (too much gossip) If you live in a village or a market town typically translates into living close by the groceries, schools, etc Commuting is expensive because of the fuel prices raising high People in the country are friendlier and more open You spend a lot of money in petrol and car maintenance If you work from home, living in the country can be wonderful Taking care of the property can take a huge amount of time Low cost of living (lower prices at the grocery store, when you buy food at the local farmers`market, the cost of land, the property taxes and insurance and the water bills) You need to plan your shopping lists The ability to focus is much higher because there are fewer distractions (there are not cars going by, you do not hear the beeps and noises of urban traffic) You have more time to explore other things in your life (explore nature, read books, articles, listen to music) Rural schools have a much better teacher-to- student ratio because they usually are between 10 or 15 students in each class
