We must go back to centuries ago, particularly in the V century A.C., in ancient Greece, a
philosopher named Plato proposed a philosophical theory where humans were a part of it. This
theory called Myth of the Cavern, became a myth, where Plato tried to describe figuratively,
ignorance of human beings to the true reality. This problem became universal because after
many years, the Wachowski brothers move this topic to hers movie "The Matrix. Therefore, we
will see that both have similarities, will see since there are scenes in the movie.
Since we have said, we can establish a relation between the myth of the cavern and Matrix's
movie. In both cases one refers to a false reality since we have said a problem appears and
makes us enter a sea of doubts those that we ask ourselves, but, These it is real or is a dream?
Firstly, in Plato's theory, the shades of the cavern are the ideas that we have of us themselves
and like that it is since there meets Neo, the protagonist , when it chooses the tablet that him
makes enter Matrix and realize the false world in which it was living. At the same time, both in
the myth of the cavern and in Matrix, we realize that two worlds exist. Of a side, it is the
sensitive world where the prisoners of the cavern live and where Neo lives on having began the
movie, a false world guided by the senses, which it realizes when it enters Matrix to test that it
puts Morfeo.
On the other hand, another world that exists both in the myth of the cavern and in the movie is
the intelligible world, a real world that only can be caught by the intelligence, for the reason. A
very big change exists between a world and other one. The clearest example of the movie is
Zion, where there live the souls that later will be connected to the program Matrix to live
through a fictitious life ,moving it to the myth, in the shades of Plato's cavern. And finally, as in
the myth, Neo initially hurts him the eyes because it had not seen with them but with the mind
and little by little, he adapts to the new world that they have showed him.
In conlusion, we can see that the theory of Plato, are universal and we can moving to other
films, apart of Matrix. For exemple, the Truman Show, in this film we can see that the
protagonist lives in a false world but he don’t say anything, and it is recorded 24 hours by the
television, since it was born until he dies. Is it one of more exemples, of that the world in which
we live, is false or is real? There is another world to which we can go?
