1. Air Pollution
Coacalco is located near Mexico City and is part of the metropolitan area. For this reason, too many vehicles circulate every day, and their emissions are one of the main causes of air pollution. When traffic increases during peak hours, air quality becomes worse and affects people’s health. If people breathe polluted air for a long time, they develop breathing problems. In recent years, more people are aware of environmental problems, but pollution levels still increase because there are not enough effective regulations to control emissions. After being exposed to polluted air for many years, some residents start to have health problems, especially children and older adults. If the number of vehicles continues to grow, air pollution will become a more serious public health problem. Although there are environmental programs, many people lose interest, and real change does not happen.
2. Water Pollution
In recent years, the population in Coacalco has grown. For this reason, water demand has increased, and this has created problems in the water system. In some cases, the water has particles or a different color, which worries residents. This problem may be caused by old pipes and poor maintenance. When pipes are old or broken, the water becomes dirty. Sometimes the system is not strong enough to supply the whole population. Water pollution is also related to poor sewage systems and bad wastewater management. If wastewater is not treated correctly, it contaminates clean water. Over time, this situation can cause diseases and other health problems. If authorities do not improve the water system, these problems will become worse in the future. In addition, many families buy bottled water, and as a result, they spend too much money every month.
3. Poor Management of Solid Waste in Coacalco
Another environmental problem in Coacalco is the poor management of solid waste. As the population grows, the amount of garbage also increases. If garbage is not managed in a responsible way, it causes environmental damage. When garbage is not collected on time, it accumulates in the streets and empty areas, and it contaminates the soil and produces bad smells. When illegal dumping areas appear, they affect the environment and nearby neighborhoods. The burning of garbage is also a serious problem because it releases harmful gases into the air. As a result, people face health problems that can become worse over time.
