Optical tricks
This report describes an assessment of how our brain can make us see something that is not there or
is not true. Basically, what we want is to show you that not everything you see is true and that your
brain makes you believe something that is not real. We will make you two optical tricks to show you
that this first sentence is true.
The tricks
We have done two visual tricks;
The first one is a magic trick where we have two coins, one in each hand and then we
“teletransport” one coin to the other hand, so at the end we will have two coins in the same hand.
The funny thing about this is that you don’t see the coin transporting to the other hand, that is why
it is a visual trick.
Secondly, for the next trick you will need two especial cards, not the ones you use to play. The thing
in this trick is that you will always see one card bigger than the other one but when you put them
one above the other you will see that both cards are the same size. That’s a totally and impressive
visual trick.
The principal objective of the tricks is to lie your brain and to make you confused about what do you
see.
Findings
The principal conclusion that we can extract with these two visual tricks is that our brain makes us
see what it wants us to see.
In the first trick the only thing that we do is hands gaming, is just that our eyes don’t see the coin
moving to the other hand, so it makes us believe that the coin has been “teletransported”.
In the second trick what makes us see one card bigger than the other is the shape of the card. They
are curved, and these curves are not parallels. This is what makes us see one card bigger, just two
curved lines that are not parallels.
Evaluation and recommendations
If you were impressed with the tricks the project will be a success, if not, I’m afraid to say that the
project wouldn’t have succeed as we would like to.
The recommendations I would do are:
You can do this at your home, because how these tricks are easy to make at home.
I would also recommend you see our video where we explain everything, and you will be
able to see the tricks and the visual effect they make.
