A. Read Jonathan’s personal statement for the zookeeper assistant job
at the Wells Brook Zoo. What are his (1) qualifications, (2) experience,
and (3) goals? How good of a candidate do you think he is?
oJonathan’s qualifications include a BS in Animal Science and
Management. His experience comes from working as an assistant
animal keeper at Rosco Wildlife Center, where he observed
animals, prepared their food, cleaned enclosures, and educated
visitors. His goals are to gain more knowledge and experience to
become a full-time zookeeper and provide the best care for
animals. He seems like a strong candidate because he has
relevant education, practical experience, and clear goals.
B. These are useful words for a personal statements: lifelong interest,
expand, maintain, standards. Find them in the text and discuss what

about for a long time. In the text, it refers to his strong interest in

Then, looking at Jonathan’s statement, plan how to structure yours. o For the personal statement for an Assistant Cook position, I will include:

  • Skills: Ability to follow recipes, food preparation, knife skills, teamwork, time management, and knowledge of hygiene and food safety.
  • Qualifications: Experience working in a kitchen or food- related setting, food handler certification.
  • Goals: Improve cooking skills, gain experience in a professional kitchen, and contribute to the team by maintaining high food quality and cleanliness.
