Intermolecular Forces: Hydrogen Bonds, Ion-Dipole, and London Dispersion Forces, Notas de estudo de Química

An overview of various intermolecular forces, including hydrogen bonds, ion-dipole forces, and london dispersion forces. Hydrogen bonds are particularly important in stabilizing the structure of biological macromolecules, while ion-dipole forces and london dispersion forces involve interactions between polar and non-polar molecules, respectively. The document also discusses the concept of van der waals radius and surface tension.

FORÇAS IONICAS

Other acceptors and donors exist:

Other donors : H bonded to N, F, Cl. Other acceptors : lone pairs on N, F, Cl. NH 3 is also H-bonded in the liquid state, but more weakly than water Nitrogen is less electronegative than oxygen the polarity of the N-H bond is less pronounced.

Van Der Waals' force

Dipole dipole interactions: between other partial charges on polar molecules. Dipole induced dipole interactions: between a polar molecule and a non-polar molecule which has developed a dipole in response. London dispersion forces: between non-polar molecules which by chance occasionally have an imbalance of charge, and are fleetingly polar.
