When do we use Present Simple?
For habits, habitual actions and routines
For general truths and facts
For scheduled situations
Affirmative sentences
Structure: Subject + verb conjugated in the Present Simple + Object
- no aux verb is needed
- we ALWAYS add an -s on the third person of the singular form (he/she/it) – regular verbs
Attention:
Do and go » does and goes
Verbs ending in “-s, -ss, -sh, -ch,- x“ and „-o“ » we add „-es“
Verbs ending in consonant + „-y“ » we switch the „-y“ for an „-i“ + add „-es“
e.g.
Rosa goes to school every morning.
John watches TV after school.
Catherine studies in the university. She wants to be a nurse.
Exercise 1: Complete the sentences with the correct form of the verb in brackets.
She _______ (like) chocolate.
They _______ (play) football every Sunday.
I _______ (study) English every day.
He _______ (work) in a bank.
We _______ (live) in a big house.
Negative sentences
Structure: Subject + auxiliary verb conjugated + main verb + Object
- auxiliary verb (do) conjugated according to the subject (don't or doesn't)
Attention: verbs that have their own negative
verb to be
verb have got

They play basketball every Wednesday. I catch the train to Lisbon at 3 o’clock. He drinks coffee and eats toast for breakfast. We make puzzles on Saturdays. Interrogative sentences Structure: Question Word + Auxiliary Verb + Subject + main verb + object Attention:  If there isn’t a question word, the auxiliary verb comes first! e.g. Does she like the new film? Where do you live? Is Miss Lopez tired? Exercise 3: Make questions with the words given _______ she _______ (like) the new house? _______ they _______ (walk) their dog on Sundays? _______ you _______ (speak) English every day? _______ he _______ (work) in a factory? _______ we _______ (go) to the cinema? Exercise 4: Find and correct the mistakes in each sentence
