World Wide Web (WWW) or Web is a repository of information spread all over the world and linked together. Describe how the Web functions from a technological perspective. Your discussion should include (but not limited to) a brief description of the following issues:

(i) WWW as a distributed client-server service. (ii) Web browser architecture. (iii) Hyper-Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP). (iv) Categories of Web documents. (v) Search engines.

Q2. Discuss the way in which e-mail messages are passed from one computer user to another. You should include (but not limited to) a brief description of the following: (i) E-mail components in terms of a client–server application. (ii) E-mail delivery stages. (iii) E-mail protocols: SMPT, POP3, IMAP4, and MIME. (iv) Spam and anti-spam techniques.

Use diagrams and examples to support your answer.

The major cost of in-house management of a website is an in-house IT staff (consisting of at least one person), equipment, software, initial set up costs, etc. By outsourcing web hosting services, companies can expect a 25 to 80 percent cost savings over in-house solutions.

You are required to discuss the above statement. In your answer discuss different options for outsourcing a Web server, such as colocation, dedicated server, shared Web hosting, etc. Outline advantages and disadvantages. (16 Marks)

(b) The need for fast and better Internet connections changed the options available to consumers and businesses. There are various connection types on offer from different internet service providers. Describe the following types of connection discussing their features, components, equipment, advantages, and disadvantages:

i) Digital Subscriber Line (DSL). ii) Leased lines iii) Wireless Internet. (17 Marks)
