Q1. World Wide Web (WWW, or Web) is a system with universally accepted standards for storing, retrieving, formatting, and displaying information via a client / server architecture.

Describe the WWW as a client-server application. Your discussion should include (but not limited to) a brief description of the following issues:

(i) Components of WWW and their role in a typical HTTP transaction (ii) Hyper-Text Transfer Protocol (HTTP) features and message format. (iii) Categories of Web documents (iv) Search engines (33 Marks)

Describe how e-mail functions as a client- server application. Outline its components, their interaction, and protocols that govern the service. (21 Marks)

(b) Briefly describe how Web-based e-mail operates in the light of a client- server application. (9 Marks)

(c) With respect to mailing list servers, distinguish between reflector and processor.

(b) With respect to Web hosting distinguish between each of the following pair of terms:

i) Data center vs. collocation center. ii) VPS (virtual private server) vs. cloud server. iii) Free Web site hosting vs. shared (paid) web site hosting. (12 Marks)

(c) The need for fast and better Internet connections changed the options available to consumers and businesses. There are various connection types on offer from different internet service providers. Describe the following types of connection discussing their features, components, equipment, advantages, and disadvantages:

i) Digital Subscriber Line (DSL). ii) Cable modem. iii) Leased Lines.
