Week 8 Reflection Suzy Hanah Chamberlain University College of Nursing NR 576 - Differential Diagnosis in Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Dr. Kendra Brady August 31, 2024

While enrolled in the Differential Diagnosis course for the past eight weeks, my abilities have been significantly enhanced. I had to work diligently to prepare for my week's classwork, clinical, employment, and family obligations. Initially, I focused on time management. It instilled in me the confidence that I could accomplish all of the duties as long as I was prepared and did not procrastinate. One of the MSN Program Outcomes is to deliver patient-centered, safe, and high-quality care that is rooted in holistic health principles. I will be able to fulfill all of these requirements with the assistance and direction of my instructor and preceptor. I have been employing my active listening abilities to identify and, on occasion, decipher the patients' underlying concerns. My preceptor is employed in a practice that is exceedingly active and has a diverse patient population. I observed that several of the patients in the office were initially apprehensive when they encountered me as a "student." However, their anxiety subsided once they recognized that I was actively attending to them and addressing their concerns. The MSN Essential for quality improvement and safety was achieved through the course work and subsequently supported by the clinical. The iHumans modules were exceedingly challenging for me; however, they also offered an exceptional environment in which to acquire the critical elements necessary to establish the differential diagnosis and, subsequently, the diagnosis. They were also extremely helpful in their ongoing efforts to acquire the necessary skills to complete the history, evaluation of systems, physical exam, and supporting documentation. The VISE and SNAPPS were also extremely beneficial in refining and enhancing my deductive reasoning, as they prompted me to consider various perspectives. The Nurse Practitioner Core Competency that I selected is the using the best available evidence to continuously improve quality of practice. Throughout my clinical experience, my preceptor and I engaged in numerous discussions regarding the patient's optimal course of treatment. I recall a particular incident involving a patient with type 2 diabetes who was apprehensive about the out-of-pocket expenses associated with laboratory tests, particularly hemoglobin A1C. She was consistently monitoring her blood sugar levels twice daily, before breakfast and before dinner. Additionally, she submitted the records for review. In the end, it was determined that it was permissible to postpone the laboratory work for the next three months as a result of her meticulous record-keeping and reasonable results. She was extremely grateful and even stated that it motivated her to exert more effort in order to maintain excellent control and eat healthily in order to save money. References Writers, S.
