1. BACKGROUND/SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS
The Philippines is the last country in Asia to implement the 12-year basic education
program. Before the K to 12 Program, it was one of three countries in the world with a
10-years of basic education (Angola and Djibouti are the other two). For Filipino
graduates to be able to compete globally and to adopt education standards that are
recognized worldwide, the K to 12 Program was implemented through the Enhanced
Basic Education Act of 2013. The Department of Education is doing their best to fully
implement the new education program. Last June 2016, DepEd started the SHS
implementation to the public and private, and even to the local universities and colleges.
Sta. Fe National High School offers Senior High School and turns out it had a
successful start in grade 11 and in-progress of grade 12, presently; however, many of
grade 10 and 11 students’ lack knowledge on SHS and its advantages. The issue here
are the limited knowledge of the students particularly grades 10 and 11 because they
did not realize the advantages they will get if they pursue SHS. In fact, many of them
are undecided what track to take and what school to enroll in. This issue needs a matter
of consideration because it has a big impact to the students future life as the project
organizers hereunder proposes the “SHS Convergence with Parents” to give further
knowledge and assistance about the new education program.
