Shiming fall short on its first WBO flyweight title defense
Zou Shiming, a 36-year-old Chinese boxer failed to defend its title from 28-
year-old Japanese boxer, Sho Kimura in its first WBO flyweight title defense on July
28, 2023 in Shanghai, China.
Zou appeared on course with experience and counter-punching, however,
Kimura sustained an early cut.
Despite of having fatigue and landed decisive blows in the 11th round, Kimura
still manage to defeat Zou by 11th-round knockout, upsetting the Chinese boxer.
It was Zou’s first title defense without trainer Freddie Roach or promoter Top
Rank.
Kimura winning WBO flyweight title could be the end to Zou’s career, Zou
became emotional on its potential career-ending loss, additionally, Chinese fans
were disappointed by the game.
“Because of Zou Shiming, you are standing here today,” said Zou
Kimura’s win is dedicated to his late mother.
