Reported statements To express in the present tense what someone just said, we only need to remove the quotation marks, change the subject pronoun and the person of the verb. “Lam tired.” He says that he is tired. Then, the verb that follows moves one step towards the past (Present Simple becomes Past Simple, Past Simple becomes Past Perfect, etc.).
