Causative have
The causative (to have something done) is used
to say that we have arranged for someone to do
something for us.
E.g: I have/get my hair cut twice a year
This sentence suggests that I was not the person
who did the action, but another person dit it for
me, for example, the hairdresser.

The causative ( to have something done ) is used to say that we have arranged for someone to do something for us. E.g: I have/get my hair cut twice a year This sentence suggests that I was not the person who did the action, but another person dit it for me, for example, the hairdresser.

Two causative verbs: HAVE and GET

  • “Have” is more frequently used in writing
  • “Get”^ is^ preferred^ in^ speech^ or^ in^ the imperative form, e.g: Get your hair cut!

From active to passive (Active): They washed my car yesterday

Examples…

  • The dentist is removing my wisdom tooth tomorrow. I am having my wisdom tooth removed tomorrow.
  • The optician checked my sight yesterday. I had my sight checked yesterday.
