Self-help books rarely help and some can even be dangerous
Every day we can find a self-help book in someone's hand. At work, in the tube or even at home!
In the last few years these kind of publications have gained millions of followers around the
world. But, who writes these books? And, whats more important, what is the real finality of the
self-help books?
On one hand, self-help books are popular for one obvius reason: they make you feel happier for
a very little money and time. It's very easy to get them as they are avaliable in basically every
library. Furthermore, their positive language and messages give people the strenght and faith
they think they need to cope with their problems. But, who writes these books?
Well, as we all know the self-help books also have drawbacks. Most of the times you don't check
who is the writter, and sometimes it comes to be an ordinary person telling us his personal
experience. There, you don't really know who is the writter or what is the paradigm of the book.
If it's not an specialist, you could be getting wrog information...and that can be very dangerous.
Another huge drawback for self-help books is that they are used sometimes as therapy
substitutives, wich is very counter-productive.
To sum up,, the self-help books offer some advantages such as making you feel better and being
cheap. Nevertheless, they have to be taken more seriously and people must be concerned that
reading them instead of having a therapy can be very dangerous.
