engineering? How would they differ? Environmental engineering and
coastal engineering are two civilengineering that its goal is protect the
environment. The maindifference between these two sub-disciplines is
that the second one isfocused on sea and water whereas the first one
works to get ageneral world healthy.
2. What is the engineering design process? It is a strategy that an engineer
follows to build a product. This is themost important part when creating a
model or invention becausewithout any idea there is nothing. That’s why
design process is soimportant and it requires a high creative skill
3. Why is surveying so important to civil engineers? Because before
building nothing, it is important to know perfectlywhere are you working.
The curves, points and overall shape of theland must be known by the
engineer before starting building. Withsurveying, engineers reach a
documented map where there isexplained all they need to know about a
land so they are able to startbuilding

Critical Thinking Questions

  1. Find an example of a civil engineering project in your town or area. Describe it and explain how it serves the community. In the last 2 months the city council has been working on expanding the train station in our neighborhood "Sant Andreu", it does so because more and more

people come and sometimes it collapses and there are traffic problems of people.

  1. Why do environmental engineers need to work with many other types of engineers? Environmental engineers work with other engineers and with other community planners. They type of things they study is very broad and it has them working in a variety of settings because of the nature of the tasks they do
  2. Do all fields of civil engineering need to use surveying? Explain your answers. Yes, the planning and design of Civil Engineering projects such as construction of highways, bridges, tunnels, dams etc are based upon surveying measurements. Making surveying a basic requirement for all Civil Engineering projects
  3. Think about a time when you have worked with others on a group project or in a formal group, like a sports team or singing group. What aspects of working together worked well? How could you bring this aspect to the workplace? I played rugby for a number of years and I was apart of a team. I learned that it is important to listen to everyone and to find out what there particular strengths are and use them effectively. I know that in the workplace it is very important to listen to your team and find out what each person can bring to the project.
  4. If you had to pick a priority for future engineers, what would it be and why? I think the biggest priority for our future is the environment. Future environmental engineers have they work cut out for them. We have several issues with global warming that need to be addressed and real solutions need to be created.
