Causes
Nigeria
Nigeria: lack of crops-->or variety of food,
caused/fostered by: seasonal change(dry seasons),
uncertainty of the future, price instability, and
lack of government support.Their government
forcused on investing in oils/fossil fuels which
made quick money but unstable money. Had they
invested and offered support to their agriculutre
they could have received more stable money. This
shows that a good government is key to farm
success.

Food Insecurity
The 3 pillars of food security from
WorldHealthOrganization:
Availability,Access, Utilization:.
Volatile Food Changes, caused by:
seasonal change availability of food, war, supply and
demand, supply chains, tax(0 percent on essentials->flour...
Our population is growing--> by 2050 we will need 50
percent more food
Rising cost of energy same time as high supply and
demand
Great idea: Vertical Farming
Farming done inside of a building
Good because: less CO2 emissions, as no transport need, no
unpredicted events like weather, no pesticides. Not affected
by climate change/wont add to it either, as there is less
water waisted and deforestation. Everything is controlled,
can grow what you want even in winter.
The limitations: a lot of energy is needed for it, and very
expensive.
This could be established in Texas--> very industrilal/low
amount of crops. Many skyscrapers, unused warehouses.$,
shipping containers.
Scarcity:the limited availability of a
commodity, which may be in demand
in the market.
Commodity: a useful or valuable
thing. Usually raw material that can
be bought and sold (ex; as copper or
coffee.)
water scaricity (potable)
lack of resources
uneven distribution
bad management
Food Insecurity found in: Lack of nutrition --> due to:
Economic Inequality, Unemployment, Rising Cost of Living:
less money available for food purchases.
Social Exclusion: Immigrants, refugees, and minority
populations
Answers: Social Welfare Programs, like: (RSA),(ASS)
to support low-income individuals and families, Food Aid
Programs, School Meal Programs, Nutrition Education
socio-economic issues such as poverty, unemployment,
and social exclusion Addressing these underlying socio-
economic issues is essential stoping food insecurity.
Wheat has plateaud (food insecurity),
forstered by their lack of water (they
then invented water pumps--> are great
as they dont use energy). Additional
fertilizers/pesticides can have a terrible
long term impact on nature (as it did
after the green revolution), it can have a
great or terrible impact.
France
Green Revolution: a period of agricultural transformation in the 1960s
and 1970s marked by the adoption of high-yielding crop varieties, irrigation,
and modern farming techniques. It significantly increased agricultural
productivity, alleviated hunger.
Food Surplus: occurs when the quantity of food produced exceeds the
amount needed to meet demand = excess supply.
How did the government regulate food prices in India?1.
Through various mechanisms: including minimum support prices (MSPs) for
key crops, the Public Distribution System (PDS) for subsidized food
distribution, export and import policies, and occasional intervention to
stabilise prices and ensure food security.
Hardships experienced by the farmers: unpredictable weather, droughts,
floods, and pests, impacting crop yields, debt burdens, lack of access to
credit, and inadequate infrastructure, climate change.
India Farmer
Farming Acts:
1. Creates free unregulated spaces outside the
market (2 parallel markets with different rules,
unbalanced, no fighting back bad deals, no
protection for farmers)
2. Creates a contract for farming deals
3. Eliminates the storage limit previously set by the
government to control the prices
