PART 1: WRITING A SHORT FEATURE (20 points)
Based on your research and the video clips provided by Sea Lion Studio, write a 400-420 word short feature story on your topic. Your feature
should contain enough information to give the reader some new insight about the topic, and enough additional resources to entice them to want to
learn more. Use the outline generated in Assignment 2 (Information Manager) as the framework, filling in the details with information gathered.
Save this assignment sheet (a07_content.doc) and your short feature article (saved as a07_keyword.doc) inside the a07_keyword folder on your
disk, then FTP the folder and its contents to the classwork server.
Length : Your story (in Microsoft Word) should be 400-420 words.
oNOTE : To check the word count of a document in Microsoft Word: Tools / Word Count.
Spacing : Double-spaced so I can write in my comments.
Type : 12 pt. type, any readable font.
Title : Include a title at the top of the page. Your title should include your topic in a clever way. (examples: "Poe Road Project: Bowling
Green's Scenic Experience" or "High Fashion in Bowling Green: Shop at CBCB's Apparel.")
Header : In the header section of your document, include your name and page number. If done correctly, this information will appear
on every page of your document. (View / Header/Footer)
Content: Your story should consist of 7-8 paragraphs:
oTeaser. Something to entice the reader to continue reading.
oIntroduction of topic (Overview. Could include history, statistics, or general information to set the stage for your story.)
oTopic 1 from outline, w/ subtopics.
oTopic 2 from outline, w/ subtopics.
oTopic 3 from outline, w/ subtopics.
o1 or 2 quotes from your interview peppered throughout the story.
oConclusion (What works best for your story: What next? How can the reader get involved? Get more information? What
action do you want to happen after someone reads your story?)
You will be graded on clarity of ideas, articulating the topics outlined in Assignment 2 (or a corrected version if necessary), correct
spelling, grammar, and professionalism. This an informative and educational article for the general public – not an e-mail or text
message to a friend. Refer back to the stories already on bgfile.com for ideas.
PLEASE PROOF YOUR WORK! If you are not a strong writer, utilize the campus writing lab or a good friend to proofread your work for spelling and
grammatical errors, clarity, and readability.

PART 2: BIBLIOGRAPHY (7 points)

At the end of your paper, cite the sources used to gather your research in alphabetical order. You should have used ALL of the following sources in your research:

For example, you cannot site three web pages all from BGSU.EDU. You can, however, cite one web source from BGSU.EDU, one article from the newspaper, and one article from another source. Articles and websites could be about your topic specifically, or about your topic in general.  Below are some common citing formats. If you need to cite a source that you don’t see below, refer to an APA style guide (hard copy or online at http://www.apastyle.org).  For additional help, watch this short video: http://videos.howstuffworks.com/hsw/26424-discovering-language-arts-cite-your-source-video.htm Interviews:  Kling, Kelli.
