Task 2[P2]
Explain the importance of network topology, communication and bandwidth requirements.
Introduction
This task is all about explaining the importance of network topologies, communication and
bandwidth requirement.
The arrangement of various element of communication network simply called network topology.
The physical layout and configuration of network that determines how computers and
internetworking devices are connected is called network topologies. In simple words network
topology is the physical layout of computers and internetworking devices in a network. Some of
the commonly used topologies are bus topology, ring topology, star topology, tree topology, mesh
topology, hybrid topology etc. (Lifewire, 2018)
Types of Network Topology
Some of the network topology are as follows:
1. Bus Topology
The topology in which in which layout of computer and internetworking is done by connecting to
a single cable is known as bus topology. It is also known as line topology as network is connected
by joining to a single cable or line. In this topology when data is sent from one to another through
the central cable the data travels in the form of packets. Ethernet bus topologies are relatively
easy to install and don't require much cabling compared to the alternatives. (Definitions and
Hope, 2018)

January 1, 2018 Task 2[P2] Explain the importance of network topology, communication and bandwidth requirements. Introduction This task is all about explaining the importance of network topologies, communication and bandwidth requirement. The arrangement of various element of communication network simply called network topology. The physical layout and configuration of network that determines how computers and internetworking devices are connected is called network topologies. In simple words network topology is the physical layout of computers and internetworking devices in a network. Some of the commonly used topologies are bus topology, ring topology, star topology, tree topology, mesh topology, hybrid topology etc. (Lifewire, 2018) Types of Network Topology Some of the network topology are as follows:

1. Bus Topology The topology in which in which layout of computer and internetworking is done by connecting to a single cable is known as bus topology. It is also known as line topology as network is connected by joining to a single cable or line. In this topology when data is sent from one to another through the central cable the data travels in the form of packets. Ethernet bus topologies are relatively easy to install and don't require much cabling compared to the alternatives. (Definitions and Hope, 2018)

Advantages of Bus Topology Bus topology has many advantages some of the main advantages are as follows ➢ Physical resources are less used in this topology. ➢ It is easy to install. ➢ It has low maintenance cost. ➢ It works well when we have a small network, it requires less cable length than star topology. Disadvantages of Bus Topology It has got many advantages but it has got disadvantages also. Some of them are: ➢ It is difficult to identify problems if whole network goes down. ➢ If the main cable is down in this network then whole network fails. ➢ Low security. (Definitions and Hope, 2018)

Ring Topology: In Ring Topology each nodes or computers is exactly connected to two other nodes forward and backward which forms a single communication path for single data and information transmission. It is also known as ring network. There are two types of ring network unidirectional and bidirectional. A Unidirectional ring topology handles data traffic in either clockwise or anticlockwise direction where as a bidirectional ring topology handles data traffic in both direction.

(Sparrow, 2018) Fig: star Topology Some advantages and disadvantages of this network are given below: Advantages of Star Topology ➢ It is well managed and easy to troubleshoot problem. ➢ Nodes can easily add. ➢ A failure of single node does not affect the whole network. ➢ It is easy to install. Disadvantages of Star Topology ➢ It requires more cable as each computer connects individually to a central connection point. ➢ If central hub fail, entire network goes down. ➢ It is more expensive.

4. Tree Topology Tree topology is the topology in which many networking devices and computer are connected and arranged like branches of tree. It has a special type of structure where each device is connected to its own node. This type of topology is best suitable for larger network. Data transfer rate is high as the network is well managed. (Definitions and Hope, 2018) Fig: Tree Topology Advantages of Tree Topology ➢ It helps to make possible to have point to point network. ➢ Network Expansion is easy. ➢ It is well managed and easy to troubleshoot problem. Disadvantages of Tree Topology ➢ It is difficult to Setup. ➢ Whole network is dependent on central hub failure of hub breaks down whole network. ➢ If there is increase in size of the network then its management becomes difficult. 5. Mesh Topology The topology in which all the nodes and internetworking devices cooperate to distribute data among each other. where each and every computer are connected with each other to make more transmission even one of the computer goes down. It is mostly used in wireless network. (Shekhar, 2018)
