Data Gathering Procedure
Purpose of the study
This study has been explicitly designed to build upon the present qualitative
research findings on the effects of having an OFW parents to the academic performance
in mathematics of Junior and Senior high school students in SNVHS. It will investigate on
its effects depending on age, gender and year level of student. The qualitative research
will also reveal the student’s performance in terms of their grades, attendance, and
compliance of the projects, and also the common effects to the students in both financial
state, psychological, social and emotional state will be shown. We all know that
mathematics is the most difficult subject that need assistance or help from parent in the
learning process.
Data Collection Procedure
Qualitative case study research is the main methodology for this research to collect
same relevant data that address the research problem. This study examines of the
individual and to set out as an explanatory research into differently positioned senior and
junior high school student’s experiences of having an OFW parent to their performance
in mathematics. The researcher prefers this research design for she is interested on the
insights and aimed to discover the young people’s experience. It’s suitable type of the
study for the researcher want to investigate on knowing the truth or reasons behind this
situation, it is because there is need for flexibility in approaching the problem and can
address the research questions of all types.

when the entire participants of the study was having an experience of having an OFW

parents and having a discussion or one on one interview in the preferred place or room in Silago NVHS. A total of thirty (30) people participated in the interview sessions. Age and other demographic characteristics and situation were recorded because individual level data were part of the study to answer the research problem and to test or give the effectiveness that can benefit to the respondents. The researcher prefers to use “purposive sampling”, since the overall research study intended to examine the individuals who have an experience of having an OFW parent. This sampling focuses on particular characteristics of the nature of the problem which is the best answer to the research question. The researcher uses lottery method of sampling in choosing a respondent among all student in SNVHS to avoid bias. Data Collection Method and Collecting Data

  • Sending Letter of Request This study emphasized the student’s academic performance in mathematics that will greatly be affected on having an OFW parents, on that such situation that holistically affect them. The researcher will be sending out letters to the specific advisories to reveal their performance. The concreteness of information will be revealed by showing the progression of grades, showing the number of attendances, and showing the accuracy on the compliance of projects. Prior to the letters be sent, we will ask permission to the respondents on the documents that will gathered in relation to their confidential academic files to avoid problems.
  • Interviews with Students Interview is a one of the methods that has been used in this research to allow more detailed questions to be asked. First, an interviewee was selected from junior and senior high school students who has in this situation, a having an OFW parent and has a mathematics subject. In this study, it is important to select a person (interviewee) that really understand the aims and can answer the problem of the study.
