This means I will tell the learners that we are going to focus on the topic active and passive voice whereby we are going to look at both sentences that are in passive and active voice. I will also state that we are going to define both passive and active voice in order to be able to distinguish between the two terms. The lesson will also look at the general rule when changing sentences from active to passive voice and passive to active voice. I will lastly emphasise that on this lesson we will be dealing with active and passive voice at the same time in order to be able to differentiate between the two.

STEP BY STEP PROCEDURE /SEQUENCING: (time 45 minutes) (Defining active and passive as stated in the introduction) Activity 1 (time 15 minutes) In activity 1, the teacher will define both active and passive voice to the learners. I will define active voice as a concept used to classify sentences in which the subject of the sentence does the action, while passive voice is used to classify sentences in which the object becomes the subject and is having the action done to it. This well help guide the teacher (I) and the learners throughout the lesson because this forces both of us to have a clear comprehension and definition of what is being taught. We will continue to look at the example of this sentence before making our own sentences. e.g., The boy kicks the ball. (Active voice) The learners with the help of our definition of both the active and passive voice will have to classify the sentence as active or passive voice. This will help the learners to tap into their previous knowledge, making them a part of the lesson. Before changing the sentence from active to passive voice the learners will have to divide the sentence into a subject, verb, and an object. I will then remind the learners that the subject denotes who or what before the verb, a verb is a doing word, and an object denotes who or what after the verb. Dividing the sentences will make it less complex for the learners to change sentences from active to passive voice or passive to active voice. e.g., The boy kicks the ball (active voice)

  • the boy = subject
  • kicks = verb
  • the ball = object The ball was kicked by the boy (passive voice)
  • the ball is = subject
  • kicked = verb
    • the boy = object

The general rule here is dividing a sentence into subject, verb, and an object. Then begin the sentence in active voice with the object. Lastly change a past participle to simple past tense. E.g., driven to drove. After making two more examples of changing passive voice to active voice, I will give the leaners a chance to ask questions before writing their classwork. Classwork Active and passive voiceChange the following sentences from active to the passive voice

1. My mother baked two loaves of bread. 2. The photographer took five pictures 3. The man sold three cars.  change the following sentences from the passive to active voice 1. Two glasses were broken by the barman. 2. Ten fish were caught by Thando CONCLUSION (time 5 minutes) In conclusion I will review the whole lesson by giving a summary of the whole lesson which means defining active and the passive voice, differentiating between the general rules when changing active to passive voice. This will help remind the learners as well as clarify and address any doubts they had about the lesson. The learners will also be given a platform to ask questions, of course keeping the tradition of making sure that the learners first attempt the questions before I clarify them. REFLECTIONS Some learners were positively participating during the lesson; however, classroom management was the problem. However, looking at the learner’s response to the classwork activity, I have met my lesson objectives. The learners were able to differentiate between active and passive voice, they were able to change active voice sentences to passive voice and passive voice sentences to active voice. They were also successful in distinguishing the subject from an object. Learners can answer questions in class but to some it is difficult to write what they are saying down, or what is being said. In the next lesson, I will employ the cooperate learning

and teaching method. Learners learn best when they learn from each other and free writing so that they can get used to writing and it will not be a problem when they have to write
