    1. Learning Objectives The learner demonstrates understanding of: Philippine literature in the Period of Emergence as a tool to assert one’s identity; strategies in listening to and viewing of informative and short narrative texts; word relationships and associations; informative speech forms; and use of direct/reported speech, passive/ active voice, simple past and past perfect tenses, and sentence connectors. The learner transfers learning by: showing ways of asserting one’s identity; comprehending informative and short narrative texts using schema and appropriate listening and viewing strategies; expressing ideas, opinions, and feelings through various formats; and enriching written and spoken communication using direct/reported speech, active/passive voice, simple past and past perfect tenses and connectors correctly and appropriately. EN7G-III-C-2: Use the passive and active voice meaningfully in varied contexts. At the end of the lesson the students will be able to: A. Differentiate active and passive voice; B. Identify the sentence weather it is active voice or passive voice; C. Rewrite sentence changing the voice from active and passive voice; D. Appreciate the lesson by showing active participation of the students towards the lesson. II. SUBJECT MATTER/CONTENT A. Topic: Passive and Active Voice. B. Materials: Visual Aids, Chalks, Blackboard, Manila paper

A. b Motivation You gain 1 point for that! How about the past perfect tense? Yes, Tristan? You gain 1 point for that! So, all these tenses, past and past perfect tense uses verb. And this verb has something to do in our topic today. Is it clear? Okay, so in your elementary level you are taught about the subject. So, who can answer of what is subject? Yes, Beverly? Very Good! You gain 1 point for that! Okay, this time I will stand in front of you. Observe what I’m doing. (Drop a pen on the floor) So, what happened to the pen? Yes! You’re correct! The pen was dropped. Again, state my name first and connect it with your answer. Okay, can you write your answer on the board? Yes, Hanna? Now, can you identify the subject in the sentence? And what is it? Correct! Past perfect tense is used to express an action that was completed before another past action Yes ma’am! Subject is the person or the thing that is being discussed or described in the sentence. The pen was dropped. Ms. Glenda dropped the pen. (Written on the board) Ms. Glenda dropped the pen. The subject is “Ms. Glenda” The verb in the sentence is “dropped”.

All these observation and examples I have presented has something to do in our lesson today. “To start the discussion, let us read first the objectives that we need to achieve for this lesson.” “Okay?” Very Good! So, clearly stating that our discussion today is all about passive and active voice. I have her examples about our discussion today. Direction : Observe the changes from active voice to passive voice. Active voice - Passive Voice

  1. I eat an apple. - An apple is eaten by me.
  2. He bought a car. - A car was bought by him.
  3. I write a letter. - A letter is written by me.
  4. She drinks water. - Water is drunk by her.
  5. He buys a camera. - A camera is bought by him. The object in the sentence is “pen”. Yes Ma’am! A. Differentiate active and passive voice; B. Identify the voice of the verb in each sentence; C. Rewrite sentence changing the voice from active and passive voice D. Appreciate the lesson by showing active participation of the students towards the lesson.

E. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills # Passive Voice emphasizes the person or object receiving the action. It occurs when the subject is not doing the action of the sentence but rather is being acted upon. For example: The ball was kicked by the boy. O V S The winning essay was written by a student. O V S The comet was viewed by the science class. O V S An entire blue house was painted by Tom. O V S A flat tire was change by Sue. O V S Formula for Passive Voice: Object+Verb+Subject Basic Rules for changing Active Voice Into Passive Voice Rule No. 1. The places of the Subject and the object will interchange. The subject will shift to the place of object and the object will take the place of Subject in Passive Voice. Example: Active Voice: He buys a camera. S O Passive Voice: A camera is bought by him. O S Rule No. 2

After the lesson F. Developing mastery (Leads to Formative Assessment 1) Only past participle form or 3rd^ form of verb (e.g. eaten) will always be used as main verb in passive voices for all tenses. No other form of verb will be used as main verb. Rule No. 3 The word “by” will be used before subject in the passive voice. Example: Active voice: She drinks water. Passive voice: Water is drunk by her. Rule No. 4 Other words such as ‘with’ or ‘to’ may also be used instead of word ‘by’ depending upon the subject of the sentence. These words are used in a very few cases. The word ‘by’ is used in most cases. Example: Active voice: I know him. Passive voice: He is known to me. Active voice: Water fills a tub. Passive voice: A tub is filled with water. Rule No. 5 Subject may not be always mentioned in passive voice. A passive voice sentence can be written without having subject, if it gives clear idea about the subject. Example: Active voice: Women are not treated as equals.
