Match the words to the correct picture. Listen and check your answers.
Track 2 Read the following text as you listen to it. Then, answer the exercise. How Cell Phones Have Evolved Could you survive a day without your cell phone? Cell phones have become incredibly advanced and therefore incredibly necessary. Twenty years ago cell phones were very different from what we can find in stores nowadays. You could only make phone calls and send text messages. When cameras were introduced in phones for the first time, the images were low quality and that feature was considered to be just an extra, not something essential. Nowadays, we all want our smartphone to have a high quality camera. And cameras were just the beginning. Later keyboards became more sophisticated, then we were able to store music in them, and little by little, different functions were added, just as other features disappeared, like keyboards that have been replaced by touch screen keyboards that only come out when necessary. As you can see, in the last decade, the purpose of cell phones has changed from a simple communication tool to a multimedia device that we use to send messages, check e-mail, take photos, update our social media status, google information, find places using GPS, and a bunch of other things than actually making calls. That’s why we now call them smartphones or mobile devices because they are much more than just a phone. They have become essential tools in our lives.
Track 3 Listen to the following conversation. Fill in the blanks with the missing information. May I Help You? Salesperson: May I help you? Jimmy: Yes, I’m looking for a new phone. Salesperson: This one has a lot of good features. It has a great camera and plenty of storage space. Jimmy: What about the battery? Does it last all day? Salesperson: Sure! It will get you close to 48 hours of use. Jimmy: Really? That’s awesome! Salesperson: Let me tell you a little about our plans. Come this way, please.

First, we made the crust and placed it cautiously on the pan. Then, we carefully cut the apples and slowly filled the pan with some apple slices. Next, my grandma gently poured some brown sugar. I eagerly waited for my next job, which was to gently sprinkle some ground cinnamon on the apples. But, I accidentally poured in too
much cinnamon. I quietly told my grandma my mistake, and she sweetly told me, as a child, she had coincidentally made the same mistake. After that, we patiently placed the top crust over the filling. Then, my grandma delicately sprinkled some sugar on the crust. Finally, we put the pie into the oven.

My First Day of School
Today was my first day of school. It was fantastic. I made new friends. Samantha sits next to me. She’s a gorgeous, tall, blond, Brazilian girl. Joe is a funny, tall, Colombian boy that sits in front of me. My new teacher is a lovely, short, thin, young, American woman.

See You Soon!
Dear Victor,
Guess what! I’m coming to town this weekend, to visit both, my family and my friends. And, of course, you! I’d be able to see you either on Friday evening or on Sunday morning, so let me know which is better for you. Maybe we could even get together on both, Friday and Sunday! That would be great! I can’t wait to get away for the weekend. I really need it. I’ve had lots of schoolwork and have had neither the time nor the energy lately to go out and have a good time. I’m sure we’ll have fun as always. I hope Charlie and Yvonne can join us. I haven’t seen either of them in a long time. See you in a few days!
Love, Jennifer
Track 8 e. Read the following text. Then, answer the True or False exercise. What to Do and Not to Do When Dating Don’t forget about your friends and family Spending every minute with the person you’re dating may seem like a good idea, but it is not. You should continue doing all the things you like and you usually do. That includes going out with your friends and spending time with your family. They have been there for you and they will be there for you if you need their support. Be honest Dating should be fun for both of you. If there is something that you don’t feel comfortable with, you should say it. After all, it’s just part of the process of getting to know each other. Don’t change who you are If being in a relationship makes you do things differently, like not using the clothes you like, not going out with your friends, or doing things you are not convinced to do, then, you should think about it. Your boyfriend/girlfriend should make you feel great about yourself. Do not hurry There’s no need to rush things. You should take your time when you are dating someone. Hang out with him/her, have fun, get to know each other, share the things you both like, etc. It’s not a contest. You should not feel under pressure. Be respectful Don’t hurt his/her feelings by doing something that makes him/her feel uncomfortable. Remember, don't do to others what you wouldn't want done to yourself.

Backpacking through Europe
Backpacking through Europe is on many people’s bucket lists. Here are some tips for you in case you are interested in doing it someday.
First of all, make sure that your passport hasn’t expired. Then, get a good quality backpack with waist and shoulder straps. Next, depending on how much time and money you have, plan the cities that you want to visit. According to the experts, May and October are really the best months to backpack Europe. Take into account that Eastern Europe is significantly cheaper than Western Europe, and small towns are generally cheaper than big cities. Once you know when and where you want to go, check the cost of the flights to get there. Nowadays, there are lots of apps and sites that will help you find the best deal. The next step is to check the accommodation. There are all types of accommodation available in Europe. Hostels are the most popular option among backpackers because they are very affordable. Besides being cheap, hostels are a place to make friends, relax, and even enjoy a home cooked meal, many of them include breakfast or dinner, or offer it for a small price. And, if that’s not enough, the staff members are usually very friendly and can recommend activities to do in town and the best places to eat and drink. Keep in mind that local, fresh markets are a cheap and healthy way to taste local delicacies. Well, another important aspect to think about is how you will move within the city you are visiting, as well as from one city to another. Most European countries have a very reliable public transport network that could take you to the majority of places you’ll want to go. Many cities already have an app that can help you understand how their public transport works. Fortunately, Europe is so well connected by train and bus which makes life easier for tourists. If you’re travelling long distances, overnight buses or trains are a fantastic option. You’ll save on a night’s accommodation and when you wake up
you will be at your new destination and ready to explore it.
