How can healthy eating habits be encouraged in children? It goes without saying that the unhealthy lifestyle of many children is one of the most important issues facing us nowadays. To deal with this situation we ask ourselves what can we do to improve children eating habits. The first point I would like to make is the role parents play in this situation. I consider that the first step to achieve this goal must come from our family. A large number of studies have concluded that we should introduce positive habits into our children before their fist birthday, otherwise it is possible that they have unconsciously acquired just the opposite ideas. According to this belief, it seems to me that it is essential that parents offer a varied diet since their kids are born, moreover they should also explain the negative consequences that junk food can generate to them. Besides that, many people claim that “Even if children eat healthy food at home, advertisements for fast food and sugary food are impossible to avoid”. I can’t agree more with this statement. It is undeniable that social networks have an amazing power in order to influence young people, as a result it seems to me that media creators should be more interested in producing awareness campaigns and in showing tasty and funny ways of eating healthy, than in making more and more advertisements of how delicious junk food is. All things mentioned should be considered as complementary measures, we are not going to be able to experience any changes until we act from different areas.
