Example: “/ am feeling ill.” - He says he is feeling ill. “Vil come tomorrow.” — She says she will come tomorrow. e Quando o verbo introdutório do discurso indireto está num tempo do passado, o verbo que se segue passa também para um tempo do passado: Direct speech Reported speech | > Present Simple > Past Simple > Present Continuous > Past Continuous > Past Simple / Present Perfect / Past Perfect > Past Perfect > Future > Conditional > Infinitive (com to) > Imperative Example: “| swim very well.” — He said he swam very well. “iam leaving for school.” — She said she was leaving for school. “My last holiday was superb!” — He told us his last holiday had been superb. “We'll come tomorrow.” — They said they would come the next day. “Sit down!” — The teacher told me to sit down. “Don't make noise!” — His father told him not to make noise. * Quando queremos referir-nos a uma pergunta, geralmente utilizamos o verbo introdutório ask seguido de um pronome forma de complemento. * Se a pergunta for iniciada com um pronome interrogativo (who / when / what...), depois de ask não se faz a inversão do sujeito: ask + pronome complemento + who / when / what... + sujeito + verbo Example: “Where are you going?” — He asked them where they were going. * Se a pergunta for iniciada com o verbo (perguntas que dão origem a Yes / No answers), depois de ask + pronome complemento, temos de utilizar if / whether + sujeito + verbo. Example: “Do you like sushi?” — He asked me if | liked sushi. 166 one hundredand Sixty-six MYEZA9 6 Porto Editora * Há expressões de tempo / lugar que sofrem alterações: here there | tonight that night this that tomorrow — the next / following day |I these those yesterday the day before | | now then next week the following week today that day ago before (0) Rewrite the sentences in reported speech. a. “l was in London last weekend”, she says. b c e. “| am tired today”, he says. “They will visit us next week”, he says. “Carol is a smart girl”, he says. “John has lost his bicycle”, she says.
