Case Study: Joints Dhruti Patel Chamberlain University College of Nursing BIOS 251 Professor Don McClure Date
The following is a list of joints' structural classifications. Bones bound together by thick collagen fibers, such as the sutures in our skull, form fibrous joints. The intervertebral disc and pubic symphysis are cartilaginous joints, whereas the hip, knee, and shoulder are synovial joints, which are kept together by ligaments. The following is a list of the joints' functional classifications: An immovable joint is called a synarthrosis, a slightly movable joint is called anamphiarthrosis, and a freely movable joint is called a diarthrosis. Examples of such joints include ball-and-socket joints, ellipsoid joints, condyloid joints, hinge joints, gliding joints, saddle joints, and pivot joints. The knee is a hinge joint, a kind of monaxial synovial joint. It permits motion in a single plane, like flexion or extension. The tibia and femur meet in the center of the knee where the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is located. Moreover, it helps to stabilize the knee and prevents the tibia from slipping too far anteriorly to the femur. When the knee is fully extended, the ACL is responsible for stabilizing the joints. Eli's knee, according to the orthopedic, may have articular leakage into the joint cavity. Blood entering synovial joints can have a deleterious effect on the fluid there, harming the joints. That frequently happens after an injury. Eli will need physical rehabilitation after having surgery to repair his torn ACL in order to possibly return to the field. Eli will feel some discomfort, swell up, and a collection of extra fluid around the knee joint. After surgery for an ACL tear, recovery may take around nine months. Even though everyone recovers in their own way, Eli must actively engage in his physical therapy sessions and complete any prescribed home exercises. References Emory HealthCare. (2022).
