Alejandro Bangcaya, a highly experienced jeepney mechanic from Sarao
Motors, is featured on "Local Legends." The duration of Bangcaya's production of propellers
for Sarao jeepneys is revealed on the show. Bangcaya describes the making of jeepneys in
great detail.
Sarao remembers a time when the company had to stop production and lay off
workers due to rising costs. Sarao and Bangcaya's co-workers also praise the veteran
mechanic's work ethic and his skills in making jeepney propellers.
The jeepney is the best known and recognized means of transportation in the
Philippines, just like New York has its renowned yellow cab and London has its tube
(subway). Because of their large boxy frame and the infamous way drivers weaved in and out
of traffic, they were nicknamed the "king of the road."
