  1. IDENTIFYING PROBLEMS What were the main problems faced by the unions during the 1800s and how did they overcome them?_** Anti-union and strike laws. Problem is that faced unions were the government not permitting people do form them. People did anyway but they also won the right to peacefully protest and pickett. 7. DRAWING CONCLUSIONS Why do you think that Marx’s “dictatorship of the proletariat” did not happen? Marx's "dictatorship of the proletariat" didn't happen because not enough people were in support of it. It wasn't realistic because there needs to be a government to control certain things. In addition, it would ruin the economy of everyone had the same status. 8. MAKING INFERENCES Why did the labor reform movement spread to other areas of life? The labor reform movement spread to other ideas of life to better society. For example, many states in the US were opening up free public schools to educate children for the future. 9. WRITING ACTIVITY Write a two-paragraph persuasive essay on how important economic forces are in society. Support your opinion using evidence from this and previous chapters. There is an expression that "money makes the world go round." History and current nations have proven that. Economic forces also have effects on society. Demand for employment can improve the quality of life of workers while shortage of it can lead to hunger and closure of related businesses. Security concerns can lose to diminishing profits and decrease in wages. Inflation rate would lead to higher cost of raw materials and a decline in purchasing power of consumers.
