Victorian age took its name from Queen Victoria, who reigned for 64 years it was a long period of a great industrialization and great progress like: Colonialism, Urban growth, Stability, Economic development and Transport development. But there were bad aspects too; poverty, injustice, hard work, social unrest… in fact, industrialization brought hard living conditions: workers and their families lived and worked in unhealthy condition. Moreover, child labour played an important role during industrial revolution. Children to help their family went to work in factories and mines for a long hours. They were builders, homeworkers, prostitutes, shoe shine, chimney sweeps. In 1840 only 20% of the children in London had any schooling. In 1860 about half of the children between 5 to 15 years were in school including Sunday. During the Victorian age population was divided into 3 parts: aristocracy, middle-class and working class. In 1866 Queen Victorian opening the British parliament, in this parliament were approved social reforms for middle class, for examples: the right to vote, change the role of the women etc. In this year, utilitarianism approved the Victorian conviction that any problems could be overcome through reason and this year of a great importance was attributed to the family that symbolized the values of decency, sobriety and virtue. People became sensitive to the Christian events and works of charity, an example of this were the slave trade and the slavery by the British Empire. Another important event was that the women began to improve their social condition. They started to work in factories and become in the future journalists, writers and teachers. During the Victoria age was approved a code of values based on stability, hard work, philanthropy, duty, patriotism, respectability, authority ect…
